From an outreach to the Somali community:

adam craven

"It was amazing how we worked together and had such a great turnout. I felt challenged to step outside of my comfort zone and I really connected with one of the guys at the park."

Thoughts on outreach:

J.D. Porter

"I have come to understand that we are to be Christ's hands and feet, reaching out to those around us. By making ourselves available to God, He will work through us to draw others to Himself. I reached out to my neighbor accross the street one night about two months ago.

I shared my faith and prayed for her as she cried. Over the next few weeks she asked Christ into her heart. Three days ago she passed away in her sleep. Her husband told me that because I took the time to talk with her and listen, she asked Jesus to be her Savior, and now he knows that he will see her again someday."

Outreach & compassion projects

Sowing seeds of hope and love in our community.

The Rock seeks to sow seeds of hope in our community. We do this through various outreach and compassion projects throughout the year. Compassion projects and kindness projects are designed to intentionally meet the real needs of real people: whether it's handing out coffee to college students during finals or holding a school supply drive for Jefferson Elementary School. Check the News tab for our most current projects.

Here are some of the things The Rock does to serve the community:

MN AID's Walk:

Each year The Rock sends a number of volunteers to help out at the Minnesota AIDs Walk. Volunteers can sign-up for various tasks including; registration, set-up crew, tear-down crew, route marshalls, or manning various tents. The MN AID walk proceeds go towards the MN AIDS Project.

Feed My Starving Children:

Feed My Starving Children is a organization that prepares and packages life-sustaining food in Brooklyn Park. Once every other month The Rock has a compassion project there.

Our Saviour's Housing:

Once every other month The Rock volunteers at Our Savior's Housing to prepare and serve breakfast for the people there.

Sudent "Move In" Day:

The Rock helps students to move in each fall at the University of Minnesota.

Free Refreshments and Candy:

We hand out free refreshments, candy and Rock info cards at many events like:

    • U.S. Pond Hockey Championships at Lake Calhoun

    • Lake Calhoun walkers, joggers and recreators

    • U of M Finals Week

    • Basilica Block Party and other concerts

    • Twin Cities Marathon

Supply Drives:

The Rock collects bibles for mission trips and holds summer and winter supply drives for the homeless community.

Service Projects at Jefferson Elementary:

The Rock has worship services at Jefferson Elementary School in Uptown Minneapolis. Eighty percent of the students that attend this school live at or below the poverty level. Some of the ways we serve the school are:

Jefferson Kids Carnival:

Each year the school has a carnival for the students to raise money for the school. The Rock sends a number of volunteers to the carnival to help out with the various games as well as to set-up and tear-down.

School Supply Drive:

The Rock has a school supply drive each fall for the students at Jefferson Elementary.

Sponsor a family for Christmas:

Each Christmas, The Rock sponsors between 2 and 4 families for Christmas.

Additional Projects:

    • Earth Day River Clean Up

    • Spiritual Surveys

    • Distributing Flyers and Posters for Rock Series and Events

    • Minneapolis Miracle (Christmas Day)

    • Thanksgiving Day Dinner for the Homeless Community (with Celebrate Recovery, The Urban Refuge and Edgewater Baptist Church)

These are just some of the various projects The Rock does to serve the community. If you would like to know more about our compassion projects, or would like to volunteer for one of the above projects. Please contact Marc Holtey.
